About the Tour

The Long Way South – Munich to Málaga: An Exclusive End-of-Season Journey

Get ready for the ride of a lifetime—an exclusive, one-way motorcycle adventure from the heart of Bavaria to the sun-soaked coast of southern Spain. The Long Way South is not just another tour; it's your chance to join the end-of-season ride crew for a journey that covers some of Europe's most spectacular and lesser-known riding regions in a single, epic trip.

With very few spots available, this is a rare opportunity to experience a route that riders never get to ride in one go and has likely never been done before. We will start in Munich, carve through the Swiss Alps, conquer France's legendary balcony roads, explore the wild beauty of the Cévennes, wind through the backroads of the Pyrenees, ride the dramatic Basque coastline, discover Spain's famous Rioja wine region, and finish by crossing the rugged Sierras around Madrid and the stunning natural parks south of the capital before arriving at the Mediterranean in Málaga.

This is a true adventure—raw, authentic, and unforgettable. We will capture the entire journey on video, creating a tour film that showcases the roads, the landscapes, and the spirit of the ride. You will be part of something special.

What Makes This Tour Unique:

  • One-Way Adventure: Fly into Munich, fly out of Málaga. No backtracking, just pure forward momentum through some of Europe's most diverse and dramatic terrain.

  • Hidden Gems: This route takes you beyond the usual tourist passes. Expect vertigo-inducing balcony roads, remote mountain villages in the Cévennes, secret Pyrenean backroads, Spain's stunning northern coastline, and the wild Sierras that most riders never see.

  • Premium Rental Motorcycles Available: Choose from top-tier adventure bikes from BMW and KTM, perfectly suited for this journey.

  • Luggage Support: While there will be no chase vehicle during the tour, all unneeded luggage can be loaded into a van in Munich that will meet us in Málaga—so you can pack light and ride free.

  • End-of-Season Riding: This tour takes place late in the season, and the Alps can be cold and wet. However, if we are blessed with beautiful autumn days, you will experience the mountains completely empty—void of tourists and traffic—offering absolute solitude and unique riding conditions you will never forget.

Important Notes:

  • No Rest Days: This is a riding tour. While we have built in a few shorter days to explore cities like Bilbao and enjoy a wine tasting in Rioja, expect to be on the bike every day.

  • Weather Considerations: Late October in the Alps means cooler temperatures and the possibility of rain. Come prepared with proper gear, and you will be rewarded with some of the most atmospheric and dramatic riding of your life.

Whether you are bringing your own motorcycle or choosing a premium rental, you will enjoy expertly planned routes, handpicked accommodations, and the camaraderie of a small group of like-minded riders. This tour is designed for those who crave the spirit of discovery, the thrill of the open road, and the freedom to explore Europe's most stunning landscapes without the crowds.

Join us for The Long Way South—where every day is a new adventure, every turn brings fresh excitement, and every mile takes you deeper into the heart of Europe's greatest riding terrain.

“Booked a guided tour over the French Alps with Oliver. What a great experience, Oliver was a great guide and had really did his homework in front of the trip. It was highlights after highlights. Oliver took really care of everyone on the tour, made sure everyone had a good time! I could write a full essay about this trip, that’s how much I loved this tour! I can highly recommend others to book a tour with Motovibes!”

“I loved the enthusiasm and passion Oliver shows in the routes and places he chose to take us. He found and included treasure after treasure of twisty roads that tested my skills and made me a better rider. The rest of the guys in my group were fantastic and helpful. Great job, Oliver! I had a fantastic time. I’d do it all over again.”

Get ready for a day of vertigo-inducing balcony roads! We carve through the thrilling Route de Presles, ride the stunning Gorges de la Bourne with its tunnels and overhangs, and tackle the legendary Combe Laval Road—a narrow shelf carved into sheer cliff faces with nothing but air on one side. This is riding at its most dramatic.

We pass beneath the engineering marvel of the Viaduc de Millau, the tallest bridge in the world, before climbing into the Pyrenees and arriving in the mountain principality of Andorra.

Day 8 (200 km): Andorra to Vielha e Mijaran

A full day exploring the stunning Catalonian Pyrenees around and south of Andorra. Expect twisting mountain roads, high passes with panoramic views, and the kind of riding that makes you forget everything else. We finish in the Spanish mountain town of Vielha e Mijaran.

Day 9 (280 km): Vielha e Mijaran to Escot

We continue through the Catalonian Pyrenees for most of the day, carving through high mountain passes and remote valleys before crossing back into France. The scenery shifts as we head west, with new peaks and new roads waiting around every corner.

Day 10 (250 km): Escot to San Sebastián

Riding through the French and Spanish Pyrenees, we make several border crossings as we wind our way westward through mountain passes and green valleys. Eventually, the mountains give way to rolling hills, and we descend toward the Atlantic Ocean, arriving in the beautiful coastal city of San Sebastián—famous for its beaches, pintxos, and vibrant culture.

Day 11 (120 km): San Sebastián to Bilbao

A shorter, more relaxed day as we ride along the stunning Basque coastal roads. The route hugs the cliffs above the Atlantic, offering dramatic ocean views and charming seaside villages. We arrive in Bilbao with plenty of time to explore the city's famous Guggenheim Museum and enjoy the nightlife.

Day 12 (180 km): Bilbao to Logroño

We leave the coast behind and ride inland to Spain's famous Rioja wine region. The roads wind through rolling vineyards and medieval villages. A shorter day gives us time for a visit to the prestigious Marqués de Murrieta Bodega, where we will enjoy a wine tasting experience in one of Spain's most celebrated wineries.

Day 13 (280 km): Logroño to Segovia

Curvy mountain roads lead us toward the Sierra de Guadarrama, the dramatic mountain range north of Madrid. The riding is fast and flowing, with sweeping views across the Spanish countryside. Day 16 (250 km): Jaén to Málaga

We ride through a sea of olive groves—millions of trees covering the hills as far as the eye can see. From there, we climb into the stunning Parque Natural de las Sierras Subbéticas with its dramatic limestone peaks and winding mountain roads. Finally, we descend toward the Mediterranean coast, arriving in Málaga with the warm sea breeze welcoming us to the finish line.

Each day features approximately 5–6 hours of net riding time in the mountains, with high-altitude passes, sweeping curves, and cliffside roads that keep every rider engaged and inspired. With pauses and photo stops, we’ll be out on the bikes all day.

Ideal for intermediate to advanced riders, the route offers a balanced mix of winding roads, hairpin turns, and moderate climbs. The pace is structured so riders with varying experience can enjoy the journey to the fullest. For those seeking a more spirited ride, select stretches offer the chance to take on the passes at a quicker pace, adding an extra dose of freedom and exhilaration. There’s a rest day at the halfway point, but you’ll need the stamina for two weeks on the road.

With expertly planned routes, scenic pauses, and a supportive group atmosphere, this tour delivers an immersive, unforgettable experience—the perfect combination of technical riding and stunning landscapes around every turn.

Group Riding

One of the most rewarding aspects of this tour is the shared experience of riding with like-minded enthusiasts. There’s something special about exploring the open road together, conquering mountain passes side by side, and sharing the day’s highlights over dinner each evening.

Many riders find that the friendships formed on tours like these last well beyond the final day, creating a sense of camaraderie that adds a whole new dimension to the journey. Riding in a group does require a bit of give and take, as everyone’s safety and enjoyment depend on mutual respect and a spirit of cooperation. By embracing the group dynamic, you’ll not only enhance your own experience but also contribute to an unforgettable adventure for everyone involved.
